Tax Reporting

Modified on Wed, May 6 at 3:56 PM

Certain precious metals sales may be reportable to the IRS if sells meet or exceed any of the following transaction sizes (in aggregate) within a 24 hour period:

• Silver: 5,000 troy ounces

• Gold: 100 troy ounces

• Platinum: 50 troy ounces

• Palladium: 100 troy ounces

In situations where OWNx is considered the reporting broker under applicable federal regulations, we may be required to issue Form 1099-B to both you and the IRS for qualifying transactions. If the above reporting  conditions have not been met, no forms will be issued.

Regardless of whether a Form 1099-B is issued, you may have self-reporting obligations related to gains or losses from precious metals transactions. We encourage you to consult with a qualified tax professional to ensure your reporting is accurate and complete. We make it easy for you to review your activity and share records with your tax advisor.
